Magnetised Iron

First, read through the whole task. Take a guess: What will happen at the end of the experiment? Propose a hypothesis. Afterwards you can test the possible claims by experimenting before you settle on one of them.

Conduction

Rub the magnet lengthwise over the piece of iron several times, as seen in the video. Then put the magnet aside.

Now you have magnetised your piece of iron.
What does that mean?

a) The piece of iron forms a north and a south pole so that it acts like a magnet itself. Now it attracts iron, too.

b) The piece of iron is set up for the magnet, so that it is attracted by the magnet to a great extent.

c) Magnetised means that the piece of metal is now impervious to the magnetic effects. The more it is magnetised, the less it is attracted by the magnet.
