The test laboratory

Take an old wooden spoon and a metal spoon. Grab both of them on on end with one hand and place the other end over the flame of a candle.
How long can you hold on to the spoons until it feels to hot? Be careeful!! Don't carry it too far!!

What did you feel?

[a] The wooden and the metal spoon heat up equally fast if they are equally long. I let go off both at the same time in order not to burn myself

[b] The metal spoon heats up much faster because metal is a better heat conductor. Therefore, I let go off the metal spoon earlier.

[c] Wood is naturally warmer than metal. Therefore, it can heat up much faster. Thus, I let go off the wooden spoon earlier.
