3. The Chewing Gum Wrapper Experiment

Chewing gum wrappers are coated with a layer of aluminium, which expands more than paper when exposed to heat.

If you smooth down a wrapper and carefully heat it up (do not touch the flame!), you will see how it bends. You can use a clothes peg to hold the wrapper.

Requirements:

• Chewing Gum Wrapper (the outer wrapper of a package of gum sticks works best)
• a tealight
• scissors
• a clothes peg
• lighter or matches
