Fruit juice defies gravity
The juice stays in the glass!
By pressing the button below the picture you can watch a short video clip of the experiment.
How can you explain that?
Which of the following statements is correct? (pick the right one).
- a) The piece of cardboard is shielding the juice from gravity so it doesn't affect it.
- b) Air pressure pushes the cardboard to the rim of the glass preventing the juice from flowing out.
- c) The moistened cardboard sticks to the rim of the glass like a moist piece of paper sticks to a window.
*Of course this experiment also works with other fluids. We took juice because it shows better on camera.
