Heat transfer

Thermal conduction

If two materials with different temperatures come into close contact the material with more heat will give some of its heat to the colder one and the colder one will take the heat. This process takes as long as there is a mixed temperature; the time can vary.

The heat exchange takes as long until the two bodies have the same temperature. The materials do not have a high or low temperature but a mixed one.
