The shoemaker's ball
Prior to the invention and distribution of the light bulb, the so called shoemaker's ball was a widespread tool. Many craftsmen used it in their workshops, like wood carver, tailors or shoemakers.
A shoemaker's ball as can be seen in the picture on the right, consists of an empty glass globe which is filled with water. For using it is installed at a certain height on a tripod.
