One really can start a fire with a magnifying glass. You only need strong sunlight and flammable material. The flammable material must be placed in the focal point of the magnifying glass where the sun's light rays are converged. One example of how you can try this can be seen in the picture. Put together some matches and try to focus sunlight onto the matches' heads with the magnifying glass. Normally the matches should soon catch fire. You can also try it with paper or dry wood. But be careful! Do not use white or bright paper or any reflective material or else you could damage your eyes because the light can be blindingly bright. Also NEVER look at the sun through the magnifying glass! This can be very dangerous; you could burn your retina. In general you probably know that fire isn't a toy. One always has to pay attention and must careful when one handles it. If you want to try starting a fire with a magnifying glass, then best ask your parents first!
