„Hey Fred, do you have any idea why some people have problems in seeing close by objects and some people in seeing far away objects?“
„By the way, people with problems in seeing far away objects are called shortsighted. Those people with problems in seeing close by objects or who find it hard to read are called farsighted. Both groups cannot see that well because the clear image isn't projected on those people's retina, but in front of it or behind it.“
„I see. And where exactly is the difference?“
„In a normal eye the clear image of an object happens to be on the retina. Shortsighted people have an eyeball which is a few millimeters too long. Because of that the clear image of far away objects happens to be in front of the retina. The actual image on the retina is blurred.
With farsighted people it's exactly the other way round. The clear image of close by objects results behind the retina because the eyeball is too short. Do you follow me?“
„Yes, I think I do.“
„Ok, let's see then if you have really understood. First, click on the arrow!“
