Buoyancy
The buoyancy depends on the volume (V ) of the dipped body and the density of the liquid substance ( ρ ) and is calculated by the formula:
The buoyancy FA acts against the weight force (G ) of the dipped body (picture below).
- If FA < G, the body will sink.
- If FA > G, the body will rise.
- If FA = G, we must distinguish between two cases:
- If the dipped body and the liquid substance have the same density, the body will float in the liquid sustance.
- If the dipped body has a smaller density than the liquid substance, the body will swim on the surface of the liquid substance.
