The higher a bulb burns, the more electric power is transformed into light and warmth. This electric power of the bulb depends on the amperage, which flows through the bulb, and the voltage, which powers the bulb.
This relation is not only the case with light bulbs! It is generally true:

electric power = voltage ⋅ amperage
