Lightning Strike

If a thunderbolt strikes, it creates a strong electric field. The spot where the bolt strikes is the place where the field strength is very high. Further away from this spot, the field strength sinks.

The situation of a lightning strike on a meadow is shown in the right-hand drawing symbolically. The arrows resemble the strength and the direction of the electric field. The longer the arrow, the stronger the electric field in this spot. If two arrows are the same in length, this shows you that the electric field is equal in strength in those two spots.

Download this template and print it. Use a coloured pencil to mark the spots where the electric field has the same strength. Then draw a line to connect those spots. What can you see?
