Archimedes' principle

The following experiment tries to explain the Archimedes' principle
A metal block is attached to a spring scale. One red respectively white scale marking is equivalent to a mass of 20 g - the metal block therefore has a mass of approximately 180 g (9 sectors x 20 g = 180 g).

For this experiment we also need a glass which is filled up with water to the brim and scales like you see in the picture below.

Now, we take the scale pan from the scales and put the glass of water in. This is because we want to gather the water which overflows out of the glass in the scale pan.
